Feeling moody

I thought about adding words here, then I decided against it.

  2. You're a star! So nice to hear from you and what wonderful photographs. The first two are as monochrome as the rest even though they look very good in colour. That second one has such a strong misty moist morning feel. The first one, to me, seems joyful. Those wonderful clouds - where were you - up a mountain?

That railway line is fascinating contrasting with the vertical lines of the trees. Is it still in use - doesn't look very smooth!

I have of course taken hundreds of photos since last seeing you but am always very disappointed in them. But I will see whether there are any I could share.

I bumped into Alexandros briefly in Summertown, but maybe we should all meet soon. I went to the Cartier Bresson exhibition - would love to discuss my thoughts. I'm going to Scotland to see my son this coming week and will be away for the first two weeks of June otherwise I am fairly flexible.

  3. The railway is actually just a boardwalk over marshes in Lye valley in east Oxford. I was really pleased with that one in terms of composition and contrast.

I felt with the misty one that the final thing really looked like what I saw and was taken in by. But I don't like the tree on the right and would have liked a wider angle lens.

The sky was just amazing clouds taken from bedroom window! I know it's a bit "decorative" but I somehow liked the tree and yes, joyful or something powerful in the sunshine burst.

Yeah I know what you mean about taking loads but not liking many, me too. The course was good at driving us to produce! Put a few up and say what you do or don't like about them.

  4. Hi I am still here, since the course I have not been taking a lot of picture as I think I go situated with the amount we were having to take over the weeks, I have been out to our local church the other day so I will post the best few from them to see what you think, I have also been working with B&W more as I am finding it more pleasing to the eye of late.

With regards these pics with the second one you have done a good job and catching the eeriness of the mist as I fine it is always very difficult to catch mist and fog correctly as it does not show up right for me.

I think the picture of the walk way is easily the best one and it’s got a very good sense of depth and traveling to it.

  5. Thanks, Steve. I def. think you've picked out the two I was proud of. The others I like, but I completely agree with you. I was pleased to have recorded the mist as I remember seeing it.

  6. I am sorry have dropped off the radar for a while have been travelling over the last few weeks and will be away for two weeks on work. It would be grate to meet towards the end of June if you are around? Anyway, back to photography: the second photograph I feel suits the theme well and it being hazy/ slightly out of focus give a moody impression. The contrast in the second photos are interesting with the trees standing out in the second to last photo.

The one that does not do much for me is the first one. I feel you had a great photo of a grey sky and clouds, but the tree seems to stand out but not add much. May some thing else could have suited the theme better, a silhouette of a person or just clouds?

    1. Thanks, Alexandros. Suppose the dark tree was me, there and dark against the brilliant sunshine, just there, feeling the weather. Appreciate your thoughts, and it's not one I spent any time on - really just jumped to when I saw the wonderful cloud formation!

I'm interested in the way light "erases" objects, like the tall trees. I'm interested in the way light is pictured in my mind; the way I remember light.

Meet up in June sounds good.
